Origins
The world of Shard Bugs is inhabited by intelligent insects, arachnids, worms, and other creatures that have been influenced by mysterious objects known as Shards, which are believed to have originated from extradimensional beings known as Cosmic Avatars.
These Shards produce a powerful essence called "dust," which is highly sought after and has created factions of loyal devotees to each of the Cosmic Avatars. But this division of devotion has resulted in a war between the factions, with the only outliers being unaligned mercenaries-for-hire and those who must deal with the consequences of such conflict.
The first set of Shard Bugs introduces three prominent Cosmic Avatars:
the lunar avAtar
LUNA
Luna represents the serene and mystical power of the night. Her lunar influence attracts bugs that thrive in the darkness and are nocturnal by nature.
Nocturnal insects—such as moths, beetles, and fireflies—are often drawn to Luna's soothing radiance. They revere and worship the lunar Avatar as their chosen deity.
the meteor avatar
MARS
Mars embodies fiery passion, destructive force, and swift change. It appeals to predatory bugs that revel in the thrill of combat and conquest.
Aggressive insects—like hornets, dragonflies, mantises, and fire ants—find inspiration and draw strength from the meteor Avatar. They see him as a symbol of power and survival, and thus offer their allegiance to him.

SOL
Sol symbolizes beauty, grace, and harmony. They emanate an ethereal light that captivates bugs with stunning appearances and delicate features.
Beautiful and elegant bugs—such as butterflies, damselflies, and jewel beetles—are drawn to the enchanting radiance of the solar Avatar. They view it as a source of inspiration and strive to embody Sol's elegance.
While certain bug have a natural affinity to specific Cosmic Avatars based on their traits and characteristics, it's not uncommon for bugs to deviate and form connections with different Avatars. This reflects the dynamic and ever-evolving nature of society in the Shard Bugs universe.
